The Suolahti Unit

The Suolahti Unit offers education in Civic Activities and Youth Work Degree Programme. It is situated on the campus of The College of Central Finland in the heart of Finland in the middle of beautiful waterways and peaceful environment. The town of Suolahti has just under 6000 inhabitants, but only 40 kilometres away lies the lively capital of Central Finland, Jyväskylä with its 84 000 inhabitants.
The Suolahti Unit specializes in social inclusion and community-educational activities at schools and other educational communities. The methodological emphases lie in participatory activities, organizational communication and media education, as well as adventure education.  In addition, the unit offers degree-oriented adult education.
Suolahti Unit is in close cooperation with both the City of Jyväskylä youth work and the Jyväskylä Region.

Facilities and Leisure activities

The accommodation capacity is 160 beds. There are both single and twin rooms available. The student restaurant Kapusta of the College of Central Finland offers delicious dishes at reasonable prices. The residential halls are modern and the equipment and teaching facilities are up-to-date.

There are concerts and other performances in the Suolahti concert hall on the campus every week. Suolahti town has a newly restored swimming pool within walking distance.  The lakes, rivers and rapids offer a great chance for canoeing and kayaking. The nature trails are excellent for hiking almost any time of the year. Because snow in winter is always guaranteed in this area, cross-country skiing is a popular form of recreation and slopes for snowboarding and down hill skiing are only 9 kilometres away. The indoor skating rink is close-by to the campus area.
