The Kauniainen unitThe Kauniainen unit of Humak University of Applied Sciences is situated in the vicinity of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. There is a direct bus and train service from Kauniainen to Helsinki which takes about thirty minutes. All the cultural and recreational services of Helsinki are within easy access. The campus is situated in a beautiful park environment. The students have access to the school library and to computer class-rooms. All the computers on campus have an internet connection. Two halls of residence, tennis-courts and a gym are also found on campus. |

Cultural management degree programmeThe Kauniainen unit of Humak University of Applied Sciences offers a degree in cultural management. The Kauniainen unit emphasizes theatre production, literature production and cultural administration. The degree programme consits of 280 ECTS and lasts, on average, three and a half years. During their studies the students acquire a thorough knowledge of cultural production and administration. Professional skills range from planning and evaluation to social skills.The main emphasis of the studies are on increasing the students’ professional understanding of culture and the arts, transmitting this understanding and enhancing cultural activities. The students learn to organize and manage cultural work in the third sector. In addition they study how to increase cultural activities based on the target groups’ needs. The students will be able to use these skills in the public and private sectors alike. Specialization studiesDuring the academic year 2005-2006 the Kauniainen unit of Humak University of Applied Sciences offers one specialization course: “Cultural Management in Finland 7.2. -1.5.2006” of 18-24 ECTS. During the course the students learn the role of the cultural management and production in Finnish society. Students will be getting a wide perspective of different aspects concerning the necessary tools needed for organizing a cultural event in Finland. They learn to understand the economic foundation of culture as part of the state structure. In addition the Scandinavian model of cultural administration will be looked at. The students will also study the role and significance of the different organizations present in the cultural sector. The course will also provide an insight into the Finnish education system and how it encourages cultural activities. Furthermore the participants will look at cultural education and the cultural life cycle from a Finnish perspective. The course will concentrate on music, literature, communication skills and modern media as part of the Finnish cultural life. Students will study cultural production from a theoretical and practical level together with Finnish students and other students from abroad and have a possibility to evaluate the meaning of local and national production and processes relating to it.
