Every unit of Humak has its own profile. Among the four units offering the Cultural Management Degree Programme, Joutseno Unit is specialized in the production of visual arts and festivals. Among the annual projects of the Joutseno Unit are "UGRIJUHLA" a modern presentation of Finno-Ugrian cultures and "POPKA", a song contest for children. The school has also participated in exporting several Finnish artists’ exhibitions. The students take an active role in these projects as part of their studies. They complete the courses by work placement or project work. FacilitiesThe municipality of Joutseno is situated on the Lake Saimaa in south-eastern Finland between the two larger towns of Lappeenranta and Imatra, 240 kilometres from Helsinki. The situation on the Russian border has created an extremely interesting historical and cultural background for this part of Finland. The school lies only two kilometres from the centre of Joutseno, which has a population of 11,000. Leisure activitiesor nature lovers Joutseno offers the unique archipelago of Lake Saimaa in addition to beautiful beaches and hiking trails in different parts of the municipality. The Myllymäki Skicentre has the biggest downhill skiing slope in southern Finland and excellent cross-country skiing tracks. For cultural activities and entertainment the historical towns of Lappeenranta and Imatra offer a wide variety of possibilities for leisure activities and cultural events. Both towns theatres and museums. Furthermore Lappeenranta City Orchestra and Imatra’s famous Big Band Festival are within easy reach. By public transport it takes about twenty minutes to both towns.
