The Degree Programmes

ENSEIGNEMENT EUROPEENS EN MANAGEMENT DU SPORT, FINAL REPORT

HUMAK’s field of study is quite clearly defined. Education is offered in three different degree programmes: Civic Activities and Youth Work, Cultural Management and Sign Language Interpreter. In these fields HUMAK is almost the sole supplier of education in Finland and thus has a particular nation-wide responsibility.

The characteristics of HUMAK as a part of the higher education system can be crystallized as follows:

a network-like structure that consists of geographically scattered units
a limited supply of degree programmes and a nation-wide responsibility within the field
a strong connection with the folk high school tradition, which emphasises general education

All the study programmes are made up of the Humak basic studies, basic degree programme studies, professional specialization studies, optional studies, Bachelor's theses and work placements. The core areas for assessment are planning , social skills, evaluation skills and media technology skills. The aim is to integrate these skills in a way that supports the students’ development in their field.

The Degree programmes and educational units:
1. Cultural Management Degree Programme

During their studies the students follow a personal study programme, which gives each student unique professional skills. They become specialists in understanding culture and the arts, transmitting culture and creating suitable conditions for cultural and artistic activities. They acquire the skills needed to work at national and international level. During their studies they also become familiar with the new communication technologies

The cultural management degree programme is offered at the following four educational units:

Joutseno Unit
Kauniainen Unit
Korpilahti Unit
Turku Unit

2. Civic Activities and Youth Work Degree Programme

The objective of the degree programme is to produce wide-ranging experts on human connections into the areas of organisations, youth work, and leisure activities. Central aspects are the development of the third sector and free civic activities, recognition and prevention of the marginalisation processes, and the production of different leisure services.

The Civic Activities and Youth Work Degree Programme is offered at the following six educational units:

Haapavesi Unit
Joensuu Unit
Lohja Unit
Nurmijärvi Unit
Suolahti Unit
Tornio Unit

3. Sign Language Interpreter Degree Programme

The Sign Language Interpreter Degree Programme produces professionals in translation and interpretation as well as in communication.

The Sign Language Interpreter Degree Programme is offered at two educational units:

Kuopio Unit
Helsinki Unit
